Smart city strategy and integrated infrastructure for Oman's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, a 6.24M sqm sustainable urban development designed as a "5-minute city" where all essential services are within walking distance. Framework spanned six domains: integrated transportation management, IoT infrastructure and digital connectivity, city-wide data analytics and decision support, smart environmental monitoring, digital governance and citizen engagement platforms, and cybersecurity architecture, sequenced as one coherent system rather than six separate procurements.
Oman's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning required a smart city framework for a 6.24M sqm greenfield development across 15 neighbourhoods, designed to deliver a genuine 5-minute city model. The framework needed to cover every urban system while remaining operationally coherent and aligned with Oman's national digital infrastructure strategy.
Led smart city strategy across six domains. Designed a unified mobility platform connecting public transit, traffic, and parking. Specified the IoT backbone for real-time monitoring across utilities and public spaces. Built the city-wide data analytics architecture for government operations and resident services. Designed environmental monitoring for air quality, waste, and energy. Developed digital governance platforms for citizen engagement and cybersecurity architecture protecting critical infrastructure and resident data.
Delivered Oman's first integrated smart city framework. Foundation established for 70,000+ residents to access government services digitally. Real-time operational visibility designed across all city infrastructure systems, with sustainable architecture reducing projected energy consumption. The Ministry carried the same six-domain structure into planning for subsequent smart city developments across the Sultanate.

A '5-minute city' is a lovely phrase right up until you're the one specifying what has to happen quietly in the background so a resident never notices the fifteen neighbourhoods and six domains working to make that walk feel effortless. Oman's Ministry team pushed hard on sequencing, rightly, because getting the order wrong meant residents moving in before the services caught up. Seeing the framework carried into the Ministry's next smart city development told me we'd built something worth reusing.
