GPS-denied autonomous ground robot deployment supporting the Singapore Police Force at Chingay 2018 and confidential security operations.
Deployed the Rover S5 autonomous ground robot in support of Singapore Police Force operations at Chingay 2018, alongside other confidential security deployments for the Ministry of Home Affairs. The unmanned ground vehicle's guidance system was engineered for both on- and off-road operation, with an autonomous navigation control system that performs reliably even under GPS-denied conditions, a requirement for dense urban environments and security-sensitive sites where satellite positioning cannot be relied upon.
The Ministry of Home Affairs required an autonomous ground robot capable of supporting Singapore Police Force operations at a major national event (Chingay 2018) and other confidential security deployments, environments where GPS signal is frequently degraded or unavailable, and where route integrity has to be assured regardless.
Deployed the Rover S5 unmanned ground vehicle with a guidance system engineered for both on-road and off-road operation. Built the autonomous navigation control system to maintain route integrity under no-GPS conditions, using alternative positioning and obstacle-awareness methods suited to dense event environments and security-sensitive sites.
Rover S5 supported Singapore Police Force operations at Chingay 2018 and additional confidential deployments, with the GPS-denied navigation system providing route integrity assurance that a GPS-only system could not guarantee in the operating environment.
Robotics deployed for national security operations has to work when the easy signal (GPS) is not available. That is the same standard any business should hold automation to: design for the condition where your primary data source fails. A system that only performs under ideal conditions is a demo, not a deployment.

Deploying Rover S5 for police operations at Chingay meant designing for the one condition that matters in a dense event crowd: GPS drops out and the robot still has to know where it is. There's no room to say 'it usually works' when the deployment covers a national event and confidential security operations. Getting the navigation to hold route integrity without satellite positioning, in an environment we couldn't fully simulate beforehand, is the kind of engineering I find satisfying to get right.
