AETOS KoolScan: Contactless High-Speed Temperature Scanner
Fully customised, Class B medical device-certified temperature scanning system, over 1,200 units built to support pandemic operations.
Designed and built KoolScan, a fully customised contactless high-speed temperature scanner system for AETOS, using satellite-grade sensing technology for rapid, accurate temperature taking during pandemic operations. Over 1,200 units were manufactured. Key features: built-in microprocessor and AI controls, calibration accurate to +/-0.2°C, a reading distance of 0.9 to 1.0m, high-speed readings under two seconds, a configurable alarm threshold, and battery-operated or power-line options, a 20,000mAh power bank supporting up to 12 hours of continuous operation.
AETOS needed a contactless temperature scanning system that could be manufactured and deployed at scale during pandemic operations, requiring speed, accuracy, and battery independence for field deployment, with none of the compromises typical of off-the-shelf consumer thermal scanners.
Engineered a fully customised scanner from the ground up: a built-in microprocessor with AI controls, calibrated accuracy of +/-0.2°C at a 0.9–1.0m reading distance, sub-two-second high-speed readings, a configurable alarm threshold, and dual power options: direct power line or a 20,000mAh battery pack rated for 12 hours of field operation. Achieved Class B medical device certification for the finished system.
Over 1,200 units built and deployed to support pandemic operations, with Class B medical device certification achieved, giving the system a credibility and accuracy standard that consumer-grade alternatives could not match at the same operational scale.
Building a product that earns a Class B medical device certification (not just a consumer gadget) is what let this scanner scale to 1,200+ units during a genuine operational emergency. When your business is evaluating a hardware vendor for anything safety- or health-adjacent, certification status is the first question.

Building 1,200 units of a medical-grade device during an actual pandemic means the supply chain, the certification process, and the manufacturing line all have to move at once, with no slack if any one of them slips. Class B certification wasn't a formality tacked on at the end; it shaped component choices from the first prototype onward. I still think about the pressure of knowing every unit that shipped late was a checkpoint somewhere running without accurate screening. Hitting that standard under that timeline is what I'm proudest of.
