Strategic redevelopment roadmap for Digital City: Riyadh's established information technology park in the al-Nakheel district, near King Saud University, comprising 377,000 sqm of office space across 30 buildings and now expanding with a residential and retail phase. Advised owner-operator Osool Integrated Real Estate on the technology and smart infrastructure integration for the next phase of the development, spanning six domains: integrated building and facility management, smart security integration, IoT and smart technology monitoring, smart waste management, smart wayfinding and lighting, and mobility management.

The Challenge

Digital City, opened in 2017 as one of Saudi Arabia's earliest technology park developments, needed a strategic redevelopment roadmap under new owner-operator Osool Integrated Real Estate, extending an established 377,000 sqm office campus into a mixed residential and retail hub, with smart infrastructure integrated into the urban fabric rather than added after construction, across building, security, utility, and mobility systems.

The Approach

Advised as Smart City Strategic Advisor on the redevelopment roadmap, incorporating technology and innovation across six domains: integrated building and facility management systems, integrated smart security, IoT and smart technology monitoring, smart waste management, smart wayfinding and lighting, and mobility management. Aligned each domain to the goal of a sustainable, efficient, and livable digital city supporting a knowledge-based economy.

The Outcome

Strategic roadmap delivered positioning Digital City as a hub for digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment in the region. Smart infrastructure framework established across all six domains, supporting the development's expansion into a mixed-use knowledge economy district and Saudi Arabia's positioning as a leader in the global digital economy.
